I wouldn't want to enter a thick atmosphhere in this fighter, it would be too hot a break up without adaquate heat shielding. Although maybe by this time shielding fields are more advanced than simple elecromagnetic radiation shielding?

Hmmm... going by the large size relative to the cockpit, and the heavy engine load, and the large number of forward facing weapons... I would guess an atmosphere capable strikefighter with multirole tendencies. (So it's intended to do powerful strikes on slow targets and get in and out without too much trouble from an interceptor screen, but is capable of dogfighting in a pinch)
I'd further guess that the cockpit is ejectable and capable of making a soft landing, possibly under emergency power, going by how detached it is from the main body.
